JAPAN INTERNATIONAL CO-OPERATION AGENCY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION OF SRI LANKA (JICA AA)
JICA Alumni Association of Sri Lanka was incorporated in 1972 with the preliminary objective of promoting goodwill and friendship between Sri Lanka and Japan in various fields including cultural exchange. Apart from these original activities JICA Alumni Association serves as a useful forum to harness the resources of JICA trained personal for their social service activities such as the health and eye clinics in rural areas of Sri Lanka and automobile maintenance workshops.
At present the association has grown up with a dedicated membership of 1346 professionals. All members of the association have had the privilege of studying or being trained in Japan and therefore the JICA Alumni Association has the resources to address the needs of the country and serve well for Sri Lankan community.
JICA Alumni Association holds several Social Service activities annually for the benefit of Sri Lankan community.
The Blood Donation Campaign which is held annually by the Association with the grace of Ambassador of Japan and JICA Sri Lanka is a very successful event of the association. Hundreds of pints of blood collected from the donors are handed over to the National Blood Centre for the use of patents need blood transfusion. The Blood Bank considers it as one of the best campaigns conducted by an organization.
Free Multi Purpose Health Camp is one of the most successful events of the Association held annually where more than one thousand pairs of calibrated spectacles are distributed free after testing by Eye Surgeons. Also fifty hearing aids, worth millions of rupees are handed over to hospitals to be given to those who tested to have hearing deficiencies and around1000 are tested on Diabetes tests and number of patients undergoes cataract operations.
Help-a-Child Project is another project conducted by the Association where a number of students from rural schools are provided by financial assistance.
The Association also holds Seminars on various current affairs for the benefit of the school children.
Each year the association organizes a religious ceremony to invoke blessing on His Majesty Emperor Akihito to mark his birth anniversary under the patronage of the Japanese Embassy.
